On the go with HH. Magdalena and Catharina
This neo-Gothic chapel is located in Astridpark, an oasis of tranquility in the city, referred to by the Bruggelings as the Botanical Garden. Around this park stood many monastery churches including those of the St. Trudo Abbey, the Minor Friars, the St. Steel Brothers, the Williamites,...
The Holy Magdalene Church is a church with two patron saints: Magdalena, who is on her way to the tomb with the ointment to anoint Jesus, and Catharina with the broken wheel, which symbolizes unwavering faith. Death and life belong together, with every saint. Both figures also reveal something about the people who bear the name of Christian and wish to go around anointing and healing, even if this life is wounded or broken.
Inside and outside play a huge role in this space. Just as in the gospel, you are invited to enter, to the inner side of your existence.
This church is an Open Church.
