Initially, this avenue ran a little more diagonally towards the main entrance. It was moved in 1928 as an extension of the main building. The concept was inspired by the landscaping by the Dukes of Arenberg, who owned these lands until 1918. They opted for straight avenues with intersections. The lands on both sides of this avenue were leased by the Duke's institute and were cultivated by the farm owner. . In 1995, the avenue was protected as a valuable landscape area. To the left are the buildings of the UCLL Teacher Training Campus Hertogstraat. More in the distance to the left are the buildings of the Hemptinne barracks. On the right, a meadow road leads down in the direction of the lower Groenstraat. That zone was originally called 'The Seven Ponds'. All the water for the institute was pumped up from the valley of the Buekenbeek with a pump. The Calvary cross at the end of the avenue had been there for some time, since 1908. It was given by the pupils to the first Superior General Bertille Selleslagh, who is buried in the cemetery. Christ hangs unreachably high. Mary and John stood by him until death. The sisters' private cemetery was laid out in 1953. The graves of the superiors and religious were transferred from the cemetery to St. Lambert's Church.
