The old village church of Molenbeek had become far too small due to the population explosion in the 19th century. Architect Joseph Diongre, also known for the Flagey building in Elsene, therefore designed this new Art Deco church (1930) with innovative techniques: prefab and reinforced concrete. Be sure to go inside if the door is open. The high vaults are breathtaking!
This lively parish reflects the diversity of Brussels. Pastor Saniko from Cameroon welcomes parishioners with African, Polish, Italian, and some Belgian roots to his services every Sunday. There are good contacts with the neighborhood mosques and there is an annual interfaith concert.
