This imposing building is the historic core of the Sacred Heart Institute. It was designed by the well-known Leuven architect, politician and founder of the Belgian Farmers' Union Joris Helleputte. The pointed arch finish around the windows and the stepped gables are typical of the neo-Gothic style. Notice the statue of the Virgin Mary and the statue of the Sacred Heart (in the niche at the top). On June 1, 1894, the foundation stone of the main building was laid. Two years later, the school moved from Leuven to Heverlee.
