At the origin of this imposing Commonwealth cemetery lies the British
war hospital that was housed in the Sacred Heart Institute in 1944 - 1945. The 50
- a number of people who died of his injuries were originally placed on the grounds of the
institute buried. In 1946 the cemetery was moved to its present location. In total,
1018 soldiers are buried here, of which 981 have been identified. It's about victims
of ground operations and aircrews that fell around Leuven. There are also 29 WWI here
graves, transferred from other cemeteries.
