You are now in the Général Gérard Centre (CGG) named after one of the greatest victors at Ligny. General Gérard commanded the IV French Corps of the French army. With 15,000 men outside Ligny, it took him more than 6 hours to defeat the Prussian battle line and only then thanks to the support of the Imperial Guard at the end of the day.
The old farm, parts of which date back to the XVII century, was in ruins. It was bought by the Tourist Information Office in Ligny in 1976, listed, completely renovated and renamed the Général Gérard Centre. Today the centre hosts, among other things the Museum of the Battle of Ligny, dedicated to that famous day: Friday 16 June 1815. We encourage you to visit; it will make your walk even more comprehensive.
This farm, which bore witness to the combat, was defended by the Prussians and the imposing barn was likely used as a hospital after the battle.
Leaving the inner courtyard of the Centre, take the road to the left ('rue de la Coyaute').
Keep right, and then cross the old railway line that previously linked Gembloux to Fleurus-Tamines (currently leads to the village of Sombref 2 km away) and climb the hill.
After a few hundred metres you will approach a T-junction, turn right and follow for another 200 meters. You will arrive on the same level as marker no. 1.
