Beguinage Museum

Women in black habit and white hood who sometimes turn up in comics: if we’re not careful, this will be the image youngsters have of beguines in the future. But that is not counting the Beguinage museum! How did these intriguing women live? Which vows did they take? What did they do to get food on the table? Please come in! Original furniture, a host bakery, handicrafts and paraphernalia illustrate everyday life of the beguines. Art treasures and religious objects show how they experienced their faith. The museum stores a genuine top item: a 16thcentury processional ormusic manuscript. This book contains the scores of Gregorian songs the beguines sang on all religious holidays. It was used and added to for centuries.
Summer in the museum
The museum can be visited free of charge every Wednesday in July and August. At 2 p.m. the guide will lead you through the beguinage (including church and chapel!) andthe museum.For children there is a hunt that fits in with the Turnhout Vlieg track.
