High place of pilgrimage in honor of Saint Hubert, recognized as an exceptional heritage of Wallonia, the basilica of Saint-Hubert seduces the visitor with its majesty and elegance. Its silhouette emerges in the middle of a setting formed by the Ardennes forests.
It is a spectacular witness to the dynamism of a Benedictine abbey closed by the French revolutionaries. Several successive abbey churches, larger and larger, have succeeded one another to accommodate both monastic life and the devotion of pilgrims.
If the first foundation dates back to the seventh century, the current building was built, for the most part, in the sixteenth century. A true lesson in the history of architectural evolution, the basilica evokes the Romanesque, the abundance of Gothic, the Renaissance; the Baroque façade of the early eighteenth century contrasts with the interior where the light gives all their intensity to the colors of the materials: yellow, blue, pink stones; marble and wood.
