The abbey of Vlierbeek was founded in 1125 and was rebuilt until 1796. It was founded by the Benedictines from Affligem. The current complex consists of a neoclassical church and the neoclassical new abbot's quarters, which is a never-completed 18th century complex. Behind the new abbot's quarters is the 16th century old abbot's quarters, built in traditional brick and sandstone style. The cellars date back to the late Middle Ages and form the oldest part of the abbey complex. Around the main complex you will find the old abbey farm and some service buildings. Of these buildings, the 16th century west gate is the oldest. In the cemetery there are grave monuments of famous people.
