Chapel of Saint Anthony of Padua

The chapel of St. Anthony of Padua on the Zoetenberm was saved from demolition in 2010 but has since fallen into disrepair. We restored them to their former glory in the spring of 2013 and thanks to the previous residents of the homestead, Antonius came home again. Honorary constable Maurice Vergauwen told us about the former #kapellekenspad and so the plan grew to breathe new life into it.

History: The chapel was erected as a promise after the healing of Mrs. Céline Van De Perre, wife of Jozef Van As. It was given a thorough overhaul about thirty years ago. When the yard was demolished around 2010, the chapel was saved from demolition by Guido van Mieghem. The Buysrogge family, who were the last occupants of the yard, had taken care of the original statue, the keystone and the candlesticks when they left, so that they could be placed again after the recent restoration.
Description: Small, deep wall chapel with recessed, half-glazed niche with the statue of St. Anthony and child. Under this niche we read the supplication of St. Anthony / of Padua / pray for us. Above this niche a stone cross was incorporated.
