Buoy meadow

Typical of the Scheldt region is the structure of this landscape. It begins at the river and consists of a short transition of different types of habitats where various species find a home. The dikes play a special role in this. They create a division between the area outside the dikes, which is subject to the tidal effects of the Scheldt, and the area inside the dikes, which is situated at a higher elevation. The inland areas are naturally composed of grassland and scrub. Here, at the level of the city center, the vegetation is very artificial, with created flowerbeds and lawns. Many of the plant species that have been planted there, such as horse chestnut and plane tree, actually do not belong in the sandy soil. Characteristic of the landscape of Left Bank are the poplars. Species that are typical of the landscape include birch, maple, and pedunculate oak.
