Description

Middenvijver is the largest open green area in Antwerp. It is one of the last parts of the Left Bank to be raised. At first glance it looks like a huge monotonous grassy plain, but if you take the time to traverse the area, you will discover more. The terrain is not perfectly flat but still has a pronounced micro-relief with dune-like embankments. The edges of the area in particular are dry and have developed into dune reed grassland in which dune star occurs, among other things. In the centre there is still a wet zone with grassland and a willow-birch grove.
