The historic Veltwijckpark beautifully connects to the nature reserve Oudelanden. This area was formerly part of the former military domain Kazene Luchtbal. The eastern part served for a long time as a temporary freight station. After the military activity ceased, the area was protected as a landscape in 1980 to prevent it from being developed. In 2002, the Oudelanden were recognized as a nature reserve. The area lies in the valley of the Oudelandse brook, which still winds through it. The reserve is known for its wealth of orchids and large population of reed birds such as the Bluethroat and the Reed Bunting. Galloway cattle help manage the area. The terrain includes flowering grasslands, reed fringes, and willow groves. The eastern part along the railway line is slightly elevated and drier. Here, thickets are present. The western part is wetter. Here, the brook flows.
