The majority of the polders are still occupied by agricultural activity. The area mainly consists of arable and grasslands and is very homogeneous in composition. Due to intensive agricultural use, there is little natural flora present. However, the polders are important for various field and meadow birds such as the skylark and the brown harrier. Small landscape elements such as pollarded willows, solitary trees, or overgrown verges provide food and resting points for these species. The name of this area, 'Leugenberg', refers to the terrain features and is sometimes colloquially explained as 'false flat'. The place seems flat, but in reality, it is on a rising plateau between the polder and the Kempen.
