Description

Further down the harbour is the Tufted Duck. This lake was created gradually after the raising of the harbour, when the lower polder remnant was flooded. A few lakes and swamp areas also developed next to it. This is due to the clay subsoil, which does not allow rainwater to pass through. The Tufted Duck is an important Birds Directive area. There are cormorants, shelducks, great and little egrets, bitterns and of course tufted ducks. In principle, the area is not accessible.
