The landscape is named after the Opstalbeek, which originates on the other side of the A12 and runs through this area from there. The route of the stream is no longer natural with bends, but has been straightened just like the draining canals in the polders. As a result, a large part of the water buffering capacity was lost. The stream valley has a subsoil of wet loam and clay and therefore allows little water to pass through. At Viswater there is a flood-prone zone around the stream. The Opstalbeek is not the only watercourse in this landscape. Further north, near the buildings of Berendrecht, flows the Dorpsbeek. However, this is partly piped in.
