When the Ring and the E19 were built in the 1960s, a large part of the original landscape disappeared in function of the traffic junction and the tunnel. A wide strip on top of the tunnel today forms an open corridor through the forest areas. The piece that lies within the museum was decorated by the landscape architect Michel Desvinge with a tree grid of 1500 ornamental apple trees. The choice of this open landscape is mainly due to the presence of the tunnel, on which large trees cannot grow.
