The Japanese garden is called Shin-Kai-Tei:
Shin is deep. But also profound, learned when viewed historically. Shin refers to the rich history of both Japan and Belgium and stands for tradition.
Kai is sea, ocean. Japan is an archipelago and Ostend is a city by the sea. The blue of the sea is a familiar image for Japanese and Ostenders alike. Watching the sun set into or rise from it brings humans and nature closer together. The coasts and the sea are lifelines for Japan and Ostend.
Tei is garden, sanctuary. Not just any garden but a garden to relax in, to become one with nature. A sacred place that warmly embraces the visitor.
