Ettelgem, part of Oudenburg, has two churches of which the Sint-Eligius church is the most recent. It was built because the first one had fallen into disrepair and proved too small for the number of believers. The construction assignment was entrusted to the Bruges architect Alfons De Pauw. In the early 20th century, he built a simple three-aisled prayer place in brick. In terms of style, the architect harks back to the neo-Gothic style.
