The Western pier, built in 1865, has a length of 490 meters, while the Eastern pier, from the same year, extends 543 meters into the sea. At the heads, they carry a signal lantern and a foghorn, resembling miniature lighthouses. During the two World Wars, the piers were heavily damaged, if not destroyed, and have been rebuilt each time.
These two piers are a major attraction and serve as a stopping place for tourists who come to enjoy the fresh sea breeze. Sea fishing or fishing with a seine net are popular activities there.
