In the village center of Roesbrugge flows the river IJzer. From its source in Lederzeele and Buysscheure in France, the river, after having travelled 37 km on French soil, flows into Belgium in Roesbrugge to flow into the North Sea 41 km further in Nieuwpoort. It is the only river in Belgium that flows into Belgian territory. Along the towpath you can take relaxing walks through the green landscape. This can be done with the junction map 'De IJzervallei' or with the 'Dode IJzerwandelroute'. The picnic area offers a quiet spot to enjoy the scenery with a snack or a drink. If the Belgian weather fails, you can take shelter in the info hut. Those who are a bit more adventurous and explore the Yser Valley by kayak can stop in Roesbrugge (www.outsideadventure.be) via the canoe jetty.
