The castle site is located in a sand cover area that is part of the Flemish Valley filled by Pleistocene sediments. The castle site largely coincides with a slight depression in the micro-relief, the lowest part of which is occupied by silty sandy soils. The water drainage was originally defective; the route of the Scheidbeek, which now drains the depression, shows that this stream was completely artificially constructed.
