We are in the center of Rumbeke. Rumbeke means "broad brook." It is an old parish of the Kasselrij Ieper. The church is dedicated to the holy apostles Peter and Paul and has belonged to the abbey of Saint Bertin since 1116.
The tower of the original church was dynamited in October 1918, destroying part of the nave as it fell. The church was rebuilt in 1924 in Ypres style. The centerpiece inside is the tomb monument of Jacob de Thiennes (died in 1534), lord of Rumbeke, and his wife Katharina van Oignies (died in 1545). Additionally, there is a Romanesque baptismal font in white stone (circa 12th century), a sculpted wooden communion bench (1734), a pulpit (1630), and several paintings.
