Former Cistercian abbey, now castle of Hocht.
The St. Agatha's Abbey of Hocht was founded by Diederik van Lodenaken, lord of Pietersheim from around 1180.
The Cistercian nuns of Hocht gradually evolved towards a more secular rule of life. From the first half of the 17th century it is called noble. In 1622, as a measure against the weakening discipline, a 1 km long wall was built around the monastery.
The abbey was originally located near the Meuse. A lane connected them to the castle of Pietersheim. In the first half of the 19th century, the Zuid-Willemsvaart canal was built on the east side. Due to the construction of the connecting canal from the Albert Canal to the Zuid-Willemsvaart, northwest of the castle, the property was also cut off from its natural connection with Pietersheim.
