The oldest data on St. Peter's Church in Schorisse dates back to 1177. The church was constructed in several phases. She received a late Gothic tower in 1538. A white sandstone above the entrance door showed this year.
The original late Gothic church was completely burned out around 1579. Only the west tower was preserved.
At the end of the 18th century the church was almost completely demolished, with the exception of the choir and the western tower with an adjacent baptistery. The choir, the sacristy and the three-beaked pseudobasic down church date from the end of the 18th century.
The tower was renovated in 1902.
The beautiful marble tombstone of Arnold VI (Van Gaveren, baron of Schorisse °1350) was in front of the church's altar until 1949. During the clean-up work after the disaster of 1949, he was found among the burned up altar steps. The artistically carved stone showed a life-size image of Arnold van Schorisse and Isabella Van Gistele.
In 1976 the church was protected as a monument.
