The plot is located on the border between polder and heathland, at the former Armendijk (see preserved traces in the landscape). Around 1820-1834, there was a house and place here, belonging to the hamlet De Weelkens and owned by Joannes Cloots, day laborer, Santvliet. As a result of fire damage, Cloots had this property demolished around 1856 and rebuilt further east on the plot. The hamlet was then known as En de Koey. Around 1878, Jan Baptist Peeters-Carpentier had the building converted into an inn, after which it was expanded on the western side around 1921-1922 with a stable and a freestanding structure behind the main building. Around 1932, the café area was enlarged, with adjustments made to the rear façade. After 1970, the former stable was further transformed for the café, and in recent times, the existing rear structure has been rebuilt with a tiled gable roof.
