Description

The flower heads of the teasel bulb were used in the Middle Ages for roughening woollen cloth, for which purpose a number of these teasel bulbs were attached in a cross-shaped wooden holder. Later, special machines were even developed for roughening fabrics using the teasel ball. The flower heads were strung on steel pins for this purpose.
