The building of the monastery originally belonged to a domain called "The Stone Gate", with a "castle" and a homestead and was owned by Francisca Van Hecke (1802-1884). In the southeast of the domain, opposite the Bosstraat, the godly, unmarried woman had a chapel built that was dedicated to "Our Lady of the Scapular". In 1910 pastor Petrus Schauvliege founded a monastery with school in the "castle". A few months later, four sisters of the order of Saint Vincent à Paulo from Dendermonde settled here. They continue the existing free, subsidized girls' school with two lower classes and a kindergarten. Due to lack of space, the kindergarten was later transferred to the Grepstraat. The school, which merged with the municipal education in 1975 and with the free school of Munte in 1978, was given the following names in the course of its existence: Pope John College (1980), St. Gregory's College (1984) and De Graankorrel (around 2000). On August 10, 1981, the sisters left the convent permanently.
The current school building was created in 1984-1985 and is the work of many volunteers. In 1984 the monastery was demolished.
On the site of the former farm is now the multipurpose hall of the school and the parish hall. The school's logo is a design by local artist Martin Uvijn.
