Kampveld mountainbike track

In the Kampveld,"Nature and forest" has created a 4 km stretch of mountain bike trail.
It is a single track with start and arrival in the Waterstraat. The trail goes through old and young forests; there are also plans to plant some new forests in the future (by 2020).
The route also crosses the Papenvijverstraat and Kampveldstraat. Between Waterstraat and Papenvijverstraat, the track runs over a few artificially landscaped hills, which gives this track a certain technical difficulty.

The 294 ha large domain Kampveld consists of four parts: Rooiveld, Kampveld, Papenvijvers and Nieuwenhove. Forests, grasslands and marshes alternate and two naturally meandering streams flow through the area: Rivierbeek and Hertsbergebeek. You can easily explore the area by means of a short marked walk (2.6 km) starting at the car park. You can also choose the extended Kampveldwandelroute (9.1 km) which crosses the whole domain.

Strangely enough, the domain near the Kampveldstraat has a very ambiguous view. The East side is dominated by industrial zone Kampveld, while the west side has rich landscaping and architectural qualities due to the presence of the 19th-century farm "Kampveldhoeve".
In the 1960s, two companies established themselves - Suikers Lebbe N. V. and Transwest - on the east side of the street, after the municipality has purchased the land. Gradually, the West Flanders Intercommunal for Economic Expansion and Reconversion (WVI) is preparing the surrounding grounds for the arrival of new companies. Extended in the mid-1980s and early 1990's, realised through a BPA. Today about 35 hectares large and fully filled.
