Playground Kinderweelde

At the end of 1959 and the beginning of 1960, under the impulse of the then curate Vennekens, volunteers from all Catholic associations founded the Kinderweelde playground as part of the non-profit organization parochial works of the Deanery of Geel, department Meerhout Sint-Trudo.

In addition to a cafeteria and a football field, some homemade playground equipment was placed. On Sunday, April 16, 1961, the playground was officially inaugurated by E.H. Vennekens, at that time provost of the Christian workers' movement of the district of Turnhout and various Meerhout associations.

In the course of recent years, this playground has been expanded into the current Kinderweelde playground, which now houses almost 50 different toys. All these toys are in order with the current safety legislation and regulations. Several generations of volunteers regularly built new buildings, such as a room (De Schob) where family parties can be organized for a maximum of 100 people and 't Schooltje suitable for parties up to a maximum of 50 people. The cafeteria was also completely renovated a few years ago.
