Heindonk is a part of the municipality of Willebroek (province of Antwerp). Possibly its history goes back to a settlement along the heirweg from Bavai – Utrecht. But Heindonk did not become an independent parish until 1803. In 'Heindonk' we recognize the word 'donk', a geographical concept that refers to a higher sand ridge in a low-lying and humid valley area. Heindonk is surrounded by water everywhere with the rivers Rupel (north) and Dijle (east) and with the large water sports ponds 'Hazewinkel' and 'De Bocht' (west and south-west). This walk takes you along a pond, a meadow and a small forest to the old country dune.
