The intersection of the Tieltseweg and the Diestsesteenweg forms the old core of Rillaar, part of the municipality of Aarschot. The village centre includes the buildings in the vicinity of the Sint-Niklaaskerk. It is in this nucleus that there are some old and curious buildings: the town hall, a mansion, the Saint-Nicolas church, café De Zwaan, a notary's house. There are also a few noteworthy 18th- and 19th-century buildings in the village centre.
The Tieltseweg is an attractive sight, including the town hall and the tower of the church. The cobbled pavement also plays an important role in the appearance of the centre. The part of the Diestsesteenweg is characterized by a descent with slight curves (from Aarschot) which creates changing perspectives. A street façade on the corner with Kortakker consists of buildings of mainly neo-traditional style, which lend a special view to the streetscape due to their emphasized bay rhythm.
