The former St. Bartholomew's Church - now St. Ermelindis' Church - was an important rural church and former place of pilgrimage. It is dedicated to Saint Ermelindis, the local saint, for whom the procession still goes out every year. This church also houses the beautiful Gothic tombstone of Squire Lybrecht van Meldert, on which he is depicted in full armour.
Every year on Whit Monday, the St. Ermelindis' procession goes out with a lot of extras.
Next to St. Ermelindis' Church, you can see the Baroque chapel that dates back to the 17th century. The chapel was built over the tomb of the patron saint Saint Ermelindis. The chapel is first mentioned in the 13th century. In the 14th century she was quoted under various names. The present building was built in 1629 on the initiative of Jacobus d'Oyenbrugghe on the eastern end of the cemetery and embellished in 1691. It is a hall chapel with hexagonal (=hexagonal) closed apse (=polygonal extension that closes off the choir) and flat west façade. It is built in bricks, alternating between layers of heads and bacon.
