Geuze blendery Van Roy

Description

Karel Lodewijk Van Roy, popularly known as "Charel Mees", founded the business in 1924.
For a short time, Charel worked together with beer blender Crockaert, who ran his business in the farm across the street from the Sollenberg mill in Huizingen.
Charel is said to have been in love with his sister, which was a good motive for a close collaboration.
But the love turned out to be short-lived; After less than a year, there was a hair in the butter.
Charel must have been strongly attracted to the craft because he worked for some time as a brewer's guest in the brewery "De Ster". It was owned by the Timmermans family and located at 134 Chaussée de Mons in Zuun, a hamlet of the municipality of Sint-Pieters-Leeuw.

In 1926 he built a warehouse and enlarged it three years later by adding a floor.
In 1948 the company came into full development and a second, large warehouse was built.

The beer was matured on 600-litre pipes. The suppliers of the wort were the Winderickx brewery from Dworp, Van Haelen Gebroeders from Beersel and De Neve from Sint-Gertrudis-Pede near Schepdaal.
In 1957, the two sons Hubert and Raymond took over the business. This gueuze production continued there until 1965. The beer business was definitively stopped in 1979.
