Standard orchard Hof te Fiennes

At a manor farm, more specifically in the garden of the historic Hof te Fiennes, along the Vlaamse Ardennenstraat in Etikhove, there is a meadow orchard or fruit meadow. The orchard is located on a west-facing sloping terrain and is mainly planted with apple trees and to a lesser extent with pear, cherry, plum and walnut trees. These old fruit varieties are known for their toughness and disease resistance. The trees are planted in northeast-southwest oriented rows. This large orchard strongly defines the image of the surrounding landscape (although not from all locations). It is the oldest orchard of this size in the region. The standard fruit tree has been part of our landscape for a long time, but over the past century it has fallen behind modern commercial orchards economically.
