Description

The river's name, Schelde in Dutch, comes from the Latin word 'scaldis'. This river remains very important to the city. The pontoon at the Steenplein is a perfect place for a picnic or to enjoy the sunset.

Tip from Simon: The pontoon is accessible to all types of wheelchair. When the weather is fi ne it is the perfect spot to relax for a while. When it's raining the pontoon can, however, be tricky to access and become slippery. Also, watch the tide. The bridge becomes rather steep at low tide and is much fl atter when the tide is high.
