The Nol is a culturally and historically important area located to the west of the village Wildert in the territory of the Antwerp municipalities Essen and Kalmthout.
This area was formed by peat extraction, which took place here from the 14th to the 18th century. Various peat canals were used for the transport of the peat. In 1358, the Oude Moervaart was dug, which runs along the Spillebeek and from the border with the Netherlands under the name 'de Zoom' to Bergen-op-Zoom. Later, the 'Canal From The Nol To Roosendaal' was also dug, which connects to the 'Roosendaalse Vaart' and runs towards Roosendaal.
The area connects to the Kalmthoutse Heide in the southwest.
