Description

This archaeologically very important site is located southwest of Landen, between Overwinden and Walsbets. Despite its rich habitation history, the site mainly consists of grasslands, arable land, and forest today. Once, Ouderstad, the predecessor of current Landen, was located here. The main remnants are two motte and a Merovingian burial field. Sint-Gitterdal covers approximately 6.5 ha and is enclosed between an industrial zone and a residential area. The strips of forest on either side of the area and a sunken road belong, according to the regional plan, respectively to the industrial and residential zones. Here, one can visit the archaeological open-air museum of Ouderstad or Sint-Gertrudis.
