Close to the Sint-Lambertuskerk stands a small castle from 1884: De Gulden Poort, also known as the Hof van Mertens. The building served as a town hall, a peace court, and a police station. A monument in the portal commemorates the victims of WWI. Today, the small castle is in the hands of the owners of Marktje 7, the most famous ice cream parlor in the area, just 100 meters away.
