Villa Hugo

Villa Hugo, according to the inscription in dark brick, named after the son of self-taught sculptor-painter Hendrik Frederix-Gielen (1876-1954), who had it built in 1938 and had remarkable sculptures made of iron wire, old newspapers, and cement placed around it. Located in a spacious garden with some old trees. On the street side to the southwest, two brick pillars with cemented finishing and a recent gate, as well as a brick garden shed under a flat concrete roof with a similar canopy, a rounded arch door, rectangular windows, and two flanking cement statues of farmers with a sickle and spade, further a similar small castle. In front of the house, an L-shaped cemented brick pond with a crocodile. For the rest: allegorical and other animals and figures, including his wife and young son, a doghouse shaped like the castle of Peer and a pointed arched ruin. To the south of the house, a terrace surrounded by brick walls with corner pillars and cemented finishing. At the back of the yard to the northeast, a possibly later detached garage under a flat roof.
