Farm Hof ter Weiden

Description

Kraekelstraat no. 2. Farm known as "Hof ter Weiden," already indicated on the map of Ferraris (1771-1778) as a farm with detached components. On the Primitive cadastral map of 1830, it is drawn as two parallel volumes perpendicular to the street, being a farmhouse and barn. Around 1871, a new barn was built southeast of the house, perpendicular to the dwelling. Two years later, the cadastral records register the construction of a new residential house next to the old house, which is being converted into a stable. Finally, in 1875, the construction of a bakery north of the farmhouse follows. In 1911, the bakery is expanded, and a new stable is built north of the farmhouse. In 1973, several extensions to the existing volumes are registered. A well-maintained farm with four separate brick buildings around a grazed yard, which is separated from the street by a spacious house meadow and remnants of an orchard; the yard is bordered by pollard willows. Yard access is marked by an iron gate between beautiful brick pillars. Square pillars with hardstone caps; the right pillar contains a round-arched niche, closed off with an ornate iron grille. Centrally on the yard, the double house from 1873. Dark red brick construction of five bays and one and a half stories under a gabled roof (ridge perpendicular to the street, mechanical tiles). The yard facade is framed with a wooden gutter board on brackets. The slightly arched wall openings have a yellow brick stretch and granite lower thresholds; the windows are grilled and retained their original green-white joinery at the rear. Front and back door with transom. The upper windows are partly bricked up at the yard facade; at the rear facade, the upper floor is illuminated by just one window. Western side facade with round-arched attic window. Adjacent to the east, a lower stable wing, which arose in 1873 by converting the core 18th-century house into a stable. Whitewashed brick construction on a plinth, covered under a gabled roof. Lightly arched stable doors and small windows; recent extension at the yard facade. Perpendicular to the house, the large barn erected in 1871. Simple cross-barn with a three-part integrated cart house to the north, of which the northern bays were transformed into a stable, and an incorporated stable to the south. Red brick construction under a gabled roof (Flemish tiles, ridge // street). Red-painted basket arch gates and low stable doors. Loading door above the originally central cart house door. Bakery from 1875 north of the dwelling. Brown brick construction under a gabled roof (ridge // house, Flemish tiles) with a tall chimney. Adjacent stable from 1911.
