The Pauwelhoeve, formerly called Somershoeve after the owners, is an 18th-century farm complex that still contains a house, a paved square yard, a large barn and some storage places. The stables have been demolished or transformed into space for all kinds of uses. Here and there there are still traces of former habitation. The demarcated vegetable garden, the orchard and the meadow land are still there, although no longer in their original state. The Pauwelhoeve is one of the oldest and largest hooves of the Sint-Paulusgehucht. She was classified in 1979. You will find the Pauwelhoeve along the Geraardsbergsestraat 65, the connecting road between Galmaarden and Geraardsbergen.
At the entrance of the Pauwelhoeve is the Pauwel statue. It is an image of Saint Paul on horseback, cast in bronze.
The Pauwel statue was an initiative of the Millennium Committee 2000. The Pauwelgilde has taken this decision together with the municipal administration because the Pauwel celebration, which dates back to 1382, has an aura all over the country as a folkloric festival. With this work of art by Mr. Lieven D'Haese, the Pauwelgilde hopes to increase this appearance even more.
It was unveiled on the occasion of the Pauwel celebration on 30 January 2000.
