Gemeneweideweg-Zuid without number. Nature reserve of the Gemeneweidebeek, of approximately 32 hectares located near the border with Sint-Kruis and in the middle of the built-up area. Bordered to the north by the streets Vossensteert and Zuiderakker, to the west by Geervelde, Lindelaan and Vooruitgangstraat, to the south by the Astridlaan and to the east by the Gemeneweideweg-Zuid and the Paalbos.De Gemeneweidebeek has its source in the Rijkevelde nature reserve (cf. Sint-Kruis), meanders through Assebroek, partly forms the border with Sint-Kruis (cf. Speelpleinlaan) and connects with the ring canal of Bruges. According to J. Desmet and H. Stalpaert, the Gemeneweidebeek is the upper course of the Vuldersreitje in Bruges. Before the digging of the second Bruges wall in 1297, the watercourse would have flowed further to the Molenbrug to flow into the Reie. Large parts of the stream have now been converted into sewers. The nature reserve is located in a bowl-shaped depression. On the edge of the area, a number of groves, including pedunculate oak, hazel, hawthorn and rowan, have recently been planted as a buffer against the houses. In the stream valley, the meandering Gemeneweidebeek still follows its original course. Along the stream are wet meadows, bordered with pollard willows, alders and ashes. On the east side is the Paalbos, separated by the Gemeneweideweg-Zuid. Numerous archaeological finds point to habitation in the Middle Ages. On the edge of the area are the two walled sites, so-called Geervelde, already mentioned in 1282 (cf. Geervelde) and the Hangheryn farm (cf. number 113). The valley of the Gemeneweidebeek is included as a relict zone in the landscape atlas.
