Castle of Rooi

The Castle of Rooi is a castle in Neerrepen in the Belgian municipality of Tongeren in the province of Limburg. The castle is located on Rooierweg. It is situated just outside the hamlet of Mulken on the territory of Neerrepen.

The Castle of Rooi is a castle farm and consists of a U-shaped main building surrounded by a pond and a square farm.
Buildings

The main building is composed of two parts. The northwestern wing consists of a whitewashed building made of brick under a gabled roof covered with slates. The origin of this building dates back to the 14th century. The southwestern facade is from the 16th century and narrows stepwise towards the top. The northwestern facade of this building has been modified throughout the 17th century. The year anchors date the last modifications to 1698.

In the same period, an L-shaped wing was constructed against this wing, giving the U-shaped main building its current form. This wing also consists of a whitewashed building made of brick. The southwestern part of this wing is covered by a gabled roof, and the southeastern part is topped with a hipped roof. Year anchors in the facade date the last modifications to this wing to 1714.

The square farm dates back to the mid-17th century. Only the entrance gate and a cross barn are from this period. Above the entrance gate are the sculpted coats of arms of the Van Wezeren and Hamal families. The stable complex dates from the 20th century and is still in use.
