Former manor house, founded circa 1865 by Arnoldus Brijs, brewer from Bornem. In 1860, purchase of 21 hectares of municipal forest and heath, shortly before of 64.5 acres of bog and marsh, so-called Papenmoer, from the church wardens and in 1866, of 1 hectare of cleared forest, also from the church wardens; In 1922 his total holdings amounted to about 60 hectares. The law of 1847, which obliged the municipalities to cultivate or sell their vague lands, encouraged this form of large-scale landownership. In 1860 Brys received permission to bake stone on the Ginnekenshoek, for which clay was extracted in the Papenmoer; For the reclamation of the land, due to a lack of farmyard manure, street manure was brought in from Antwerp.
