Castle Ten Dorpe

Remains of a domain, a lease from Cantecroy already mentioned in 1290, which was completely lost due to land divisions, street, and railway construction. Formerly connected by a lane to the castle Cantecroy (see Ferraris map). Destroyed by fire in 1583 during the siege of Antwerp, see landscape drawing "by den Luythage" from 1609 by P.P. Rubens, which depicts the ruins of the castle with the gatehouse and tower that clearly correspond to the current ones. Rebuilt in the mid-17th century as a pleasure house by the Goubau family; in the second half of the 18th century it came into the hands of burgrave du Toict (see coat of arms above the gate). The castle took on its current appearance after renovations around 1860; decay after 1925, currently (since 1977) restored and repurposed as a residence.
