Airport Deurne

A message in the Standaard indicates how regulations can lead to pure Kafka. It has been observed that a flight starting here in Deurne to Spain regularly makes a stopover in Zaventem. You would think this might be to pick up extra passengers. But no. No extra person boards or alights. There is, however, refueling. Refueling and an additional landing and takeoff cannot be profitable, right? But then Kafka comes into play in the aviation world combined with economic laws. The runway here in Deurne is shorter than the one in Zaventem. This means that one is not allowed to carry as much weight if the runway is wet. However, if a tour operator can fill a plane, they will do so if it is economically more viable. But how do you compensate for the extra weight that is not allowed? The solution: you take less fuel and refuel a bit further away in Zaventem. And despite the fact that all of this seems completely absurd to any reasonable person, even those with little ecological affinity, it turns out that after applying all the rules this is apparently the better economically viable solution. This naturally has everything to do with the fact that the extra 17% emission is not properly accounted for. And then you get pure Kafka. This is a textbook example of how small atomic regulations lead to a process that, when viewed 'top down', becomes completely absurd.
