Beelenhof Castle or Bellenhof, located in a large park and founded around 1770-71 by Baron de Beelen who is, as it were, the founder of Maria-ter-Heide. Until the 18th century, this area was a vast plain, the "Brasschaatse heide". In 1768 Baron de Beelen bought these moorlands which he parcelled out and sold; He kept a large area for himself on the old road to Breda, on which he had a court of plaisance built according to the classic French model.
