Description

Formerly known as "Castle of Aalter", now known as "Castle Loveld". Castle on an L-shaped ground plan in a spacious landscaped garden; built on the orders of Count Karel de Hemricourt de Grunne (mayor of Aalter from 1921 to 1932) in 1912 according to a design by architect Flanneau. Constructed of brick and natural stone with a massive slate roof (two attic floors) in a simplified classicizing "French style". Beautiful interior in Louis XVI style with painted wooden wainscoting and marble fireplaces in the various rooms (hall, library, salons, dining room) reportedly coming from the castle in Laval (France), owned by the de Montalembert family (wife of de Grunne).
