Description

Former castle known as "Pavilion de la Tourelle", currently a school for childcare workers and a nursery run by the Cistercians. Originally an L-shaped castle with a corner turret, built by Baronesses Marie, Louise, and Augusta Kervyn de Volkaersbeke in 1882. Marie Kervyn became Mother Lutgarde of the Cistercian sisters and gifted the castle to the monastery in 1912. It forms the right part of the current building. The left wing was added in 1922, and the chapel at the back right was constructed in 1931 by D.M. and G. De Bakker (see inscription stone). Originally a neo-Gothic castle of dark brick with an east-facing facade, now the right side facade. The current facade (facing south), part of the earlier extension from 1882 and an adjoining section from 1922, features an L-shaped layout with a columned gallery and a terrace crowning the protruding central bay. The right risalit, the side facade of the 19th-century building forms a broad stepped facade with Bruges spans containing cross windows and is marked on the ground floor by a beautiful greenhouse with a curved roof on cast iron columns. The former facade, now the right side facade with a single straight span and similar stepped facade with broad Bruges span preceded by a staircase. Central buttress at the top with an inscription stone featuring the coat of arms of the Kervyn family and the year 1882. A hexagonal stair tower leans to the right, now with a crenellated crown instead of the original turret. To the east, an adjoining new wing with chapel and school building from 1931.
